Saeculum Aureum, originally called ‘University Madrigal Singers’, was founded by Michael Lambert in 2015 as a project of the School of Languages and Literatures at Rhodes University. The group has since broadened their horizons, presenting more varied programmes, including contemporary works and music by local composers. They have stayed true to their roots, continuing to produce multi-lingual programmes of which early music remains an important part, as suggested by their name (Latin for “Golden Age”: a reference to the Renaissance).
